If you have nothing more exciting to do this Saturday, why not pop into King Henry’s Walk Garden and watch the fruit and vegetables grow for a while. Peter will be there doing a bit of volunteering so if you get tired of all the lush loveliness you can always talk timebanking with him.
The garden is off Balls Pond Road and is open to the public from 1200 to 1600 on Saturday and Sunday.

The Home Grown garden project at the Mayville Community Centre near Newington Green must relocate. The Centre has already closed to be completely rebuilt. The garden’s understanding was that the contractors could work around them. They’ve now been told they have to completely vacate the site by 17th May or lose everything.
Three raised beds for disabled gardeners need to be dismantled and then the boards and approx 9 tonnes of soil have to be moved 300m to a new site. Most of the fruit and vegetable plants have already been transplanted into smaller containers and there will be about 40 of these to move too. The raised beds then need to be rebuilt, filled and replanted.
It is a very big job for a small project. They’ve ordered 3 wheelbarrows and 6 heavy duty trolleys but they don’t have many able-bodied participants.
The move can only happen on two Saturdays – 8th and 15th May. All help would be most gratefully received, even if it is only for an hour or two. Electric screwdrivers and more wheelbarrows are needed too.
If anyone can assist them – this coming Saturday or the one after – please let them know. Contact:

Get a taste of beekeeping, learn to waste less money, water and energy, make your own natural soaps and discover how other communities are becoming more sustainable.
The Hackney City Farm is running a series of workshops for local residents in which you will learn about steps you can take to reduce your energy, water and shopping costs while at the same time improving your health, well-being and community.
Over the course of six months you will join in monthly meetings at which you will meet other interested locals, hear from experts and develop plans to cut your energy costs.
As a participant in the Green Ambassador scheme, you will also be able to attend a range of environmental skills courses for free – ranging from solar electricity and hot water to urban gardening and herbal medicine.
Whether you want to cut your bills, take more control of your life, become less dependent on large distant companies or help save the planet, you are welcome to take part in the free project at the Hackney City Farm.
Join in – call 020 7729 7382 and mention Green Ambassadors or send an email to Gustavo@hackneycityfarm.co.uk

Want to learn more about reducing your carbon footprint and making smarter choices for the future? Confused about where to start?
Carbon Conversations is fun course starting shortly in Highbury. Over six meetings you will be taken through all the issues, in a friendly supportive environment co-facilitated by those who care and have already begun their low carbon journey.
The course will cover home energy, travel, food, what we consume and what we waste.
It is a mixture of games, discusssion and paired exercises that takes you through a structured programme to help you understand more and puts you in charge of what you would like or are able to do.
There is plenty of space to learn from each other and build contacts locally.
We have books to lend, energy monitors, experts to help you on our forum and links with other local organisations to further help you where you need it.
The course is free but we do invite you to purchase the accompanying handbook for £15 and share the venue costs (around £5).
The course will run bi-weekly on a Tuesday near Drayton Park Railway station starting soon.
