The idea is to create an interactive visual and text based user-defined map of the neighbourhoods of Islington.

Video Street Map
If you have a digital camera, camera-phone or camcorder you can help create a visual record of your neighbourhood which can be plotted on an online map.

You can participate with us in a group on specific mapping days or work alone and email or upload your photos for inclusion in the project.

Make a note of the location of the photographs you take and write down any information that you think may be useful.

Inventree
For instance, if you are interested in the trees in public spaces, such as in your street or nearby park, take photographs of each of them, and try to find out as much information about as you can.

As well as photographs of the whole street, you can take close ups of individual leaves, measure the girth of the trunk, estimate the height of the tree, note down any damage or signs of illness.

Like Your Street, Know Your Neighbourhood
One aim of community mapping is to encourage people to care more about their areas. Take photographs of the things you like in your street – and add your suggestions for what can be improved.

Eyes for Islington
Your community mapping activities can be part of ‘Eyes for Islington’ with the added advantage that all the time you put in can be recognized in timebanking hours.

If there are hazards, like loose paving, trip, potholes, broken signs and streetlamps, take photos of these and if you can include specific location details they can be used to log reports to Contact Islington, so that hazards can be eliminated.
