Following the disappointing news that building works in King Square Gardens will prevent us from holding the EC1 Summer Festival, we are pleased to be partners with the Whitecross Street Party which is taking place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July. This spectacular weekend event will be jam packed with art exhibitions, street entertainers, rides and performances. Put the date in your diary, it’s an event not to be missed!
Help needed urgently
The Home Grown garden project at the Mayville Community Centre near Newington Green must relocate. The Centre has already closed to be completely rebuilt. The garden’s understanding was that the contractors could work around them. They’ve now been told they have to completely vacate the site by 17th May or lose everything.
Three raised beds for disabled gardeners need to be dismantled and then the boards and approx 9 tonnes of soil have to be moved 300m to a new site. Most of the fruit and vegetable plants have already been transplanted into smaller containers and there will be about 40 of these to move too. The raised beds then need to be rebuilt, filled and replanted.
It is a very big job for a small project. They’ve ordered 3 wheelbarrows and 6 heavy duty trolleys but they don’t have many able-bodied participants.
The move can only happen on two Saturdays – 8th and 15th May. All help would be most gratefully received, even if it is only for an hour or two. Electric screwdrivers and more wheelbarrows are needed too.
If anyone can assist them – this coming Saturday or the one after – please let them know. Contact:

Highbury area time bank planning meeting TONIGHT – 6th April
Dear Peter
Could you please post this on istime.
Happy Easter
ll
Priti
Priti and I have been talking about getting a timebank/skills-sharing group going in Highbury. If you’re interested in helping out – and we’d love you to – please come along to a planning meeting on Tuesday 6th April (7pm, The Community Space, Ground Floor, The Chestnuts, N5 2QE – entrance behind the bus stop on Highbury Park).
We’re thinking of kicking things off with a give-and-take event in May.
Here’s a brief outline of the event:
Aim: to raise some start-up funds for the timebank and start to build up some contacts of interested individuals
What: A give-and-take event, with a small (voluntary) donation on the door and cakes for sale
Where: The community space and garden, The Chestnuts, N5 2QE
When: a Saturday afternoon, mid May – ideally May 8
Please do forward to anyone else you think might be interested. This might be a good opportunity to sign people up for some gardening skill-sharing so in gardening group people in particular might want to get involved. I’ve also posted this event on the Ning http://transitionhighbury.ning.com/events/planning-meeting-timebank).
Hope you’re all having a great weekend,
Mary.
